Shipping cars in and out of Montana is challenging for a couple reasons. First, take a look at the landscape of the state. The east side of the state is comprised of the Great Plains with sparsely populated towns and cities. Heading west from the Great Plains you run into the Rocky Mountains, and then you have the Cabinet Mountains and the Bitterroot Range in the west. Second, consider Montana’s weather. It has some of the harshest and longest winters in the country. You combine Montana’s challenging landscape and its weather, and you can understand why shipping cars to and from the state isn’t exactly a walk in the park.
The best car shipping locations in Montana are along the I-90 corridor from Billings to Bozeman, but most of the other cities along I-90, even up to Missoula aren't bad.
Other solid car shipping locations include those along I-15 from Helena down to the I-15 and I-90 junction.
Finally, those locations along I-94 from Billings to the North Dakota border are decent car shipping locations. This is a 250-mile trucking corridor that is heavily traveled by car carriers so locations along it such as Miles City and Glendive are all good locations to ship cars to or from.
The challenging car shipping locations in Montana are those locations 50 miles or more north or south of I-90 and I-94. The further away you get from those interstates, the more challenging the car shipments will be, meaning they will cost more money and will take more time to complete.
Other challenging car shipping locations in the state include those locations north of Helena and south of Dillon on I-15.
We are strategically based in Billings, MT. The two major trucking corridors in the state join and divide here, I-90 and I-94, so it is an ideal hub for car shipments to and from Montana. For the convenience of our customers, we provide free secured terminal shipping in Billings for pick ups and drop offs if needed.

The state of South Dakota is sparsely populated and dominated by rolling prairies, much like its northern neighbor, North Dakota. But unlike its northern neighbor, the prairies in South Dakota give way to the Black Hills National Forest in the far western part of the state.
It goes without saying that anything in or south of the Black Hills National Forest is going to be very challenging. Meaning, your South Dakota auto transport may take longer and may require additional money to get done. Car carriers just don’t go to national forests on a regularly basis. Cities north and east of the Black Hills along I-90 aren’t too bad. In fact, one of the best car shipping options in South Dakota is Rapid City located along I-90 on the eastern edge of the Black Hills.
Speaking of I-90, it is the primary car shipping corridor in the state. Any South Dakota auto transport that starts or ends more than 50 miles north or south of I-90 is going to be the next most challenging. Car carriers are traveling across the state on I-90 so if they have to travel a significant distance off of it, they will require more money and usually more time. They want to stick as close to the interstate as possible!
I-29, which runs north/south near the eastern border of South Dakota, is the other major car shipping corridor in the state. Like I-90, anything significantly off the interstate will be more challenging (potentially more time and more money to complete).
The two best cities to ship a car to or from in South Dakota are Rapid City along I-90 on the western edge of the state, and Sioux Falls, which is also along I-90 but on the far eastern edge of the state. Sioux Falls also has the added bonus of I-29 running through it for those car carriers traveling up and down I-29. It is also the largest city in the state so more car carriers are passing through it than any other city in the state.
Most of the time any location along, or close to, I-90 and I-29 are also decent car shipping options in South Dakota. Keep in mind, however, that just because a city may be along these interstates doesn’t automatically make it a great car shipping location. The closer the city is to Rapid City or Sioux Falls, the better. If the city is far away from those two cities, then the transport may take more time and more money even if it is on an interstate. Some examples include Murdo (along I-90 but far from either Rapid City or Sioux Falls) and Watertown (along I-29 but far from Sioux Falls).
