If you’re looking to ship a car from New York to Florida, chances are you are one of the many “snowbirds” we ship vehicles for! The snowbird season for NY to FL transports (and for NJ to FL transports) starts in late October. This is when the folks in New York and New Jersey start heading south for the winter. But beware, late October and November are the most expensive times of the year to ship a car from New York to Florida because the snowbird season is in full swing!
Rates usually drop significantly in early spring because the snowbird season is over and everyone is shipping their cars going the opposite direction (from Florida to New York). Car carriers want their trailers full of vehicles or they lose money. The problem is, there aren't as many people shipping cars from New York to Florida in the spring. As a result, car carriers are willing to take less to get their trailers full as they head back south to Florida to grab another load. Basically, the demand to ship cars from Florida to New York is much higher in early spring than the demand to ship cars from New York to Florida so the rates come down.
The distance between New York and Florida varies depending on the pick up and delivery locations in each state, but it's between 1,200 - 1,400 miles. A car carrier can travel this route in about three days. That means once your car is picked up in New York, it will arrive at the delivery location in Florida in three days.

When you're shipping a car to or from New York, there are three areas of the state that will affect how much your transport will cost, and how long it will take to ship a car to or from New York. One area is the New York City metropolitan area that includes the five boroughs (The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island) and Long Island. The other area is just outside of New York City that includes the cities of White Plains, Yonkers, and Rye. Finally, the other area is Upstate New York, which is basically the rest of the state.
Auto transports in and out of the New York City metropolitan area will typically cost more because of the logistics of picking up or delivering a vehicle in such a congested and challenging metropolitan area, but the upside is that freight can often move faster because that’s where most of the carriers are working in the state of New York.
The cities of White Plains, Yonkers, and Rye are just outside New York City and they can be the best areas of New York to ship cars to or from because car carriers can avoid the city and the boroughs and they can still continue travelling to surrounding states without having to pay heavy tolls or encounter too much traffic.
The rest of the state of New York, Upstate New York, is made up of several subregions. Those subregions include Western New York, Finger Lakes, Southern Tier, Central New York, North Country, Mohawk Valley, Capital District, and Hudson Valley. Each of these regions in Upstate New York have their pros and cons when it comes to car shipping. Most areas along the interstates throughout NY state are relatively easy to ship in and out of and are your cheapest shipping options. Those areas include the cities of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany. The southern areas of Hudson Valley (Poughkeepsie down to just north of White Plains) can be a little more challenging so transports in and out of these areas may take a day or two longer and may cost more.

We do a lot of transports to and from Florida, particularly snowbird transports between Florida and New York (and New York to Florida). There are five areas of Florida that we primarily ship to and from. Those areas include northeast Florida, central Florida, southeast Florida, southwest Florida, and the panhandle. The sixth area that we do transports for, but not nearly as often, is the Florida Keys.
The most popular shipping hub for auto transports in and out of Florida is Miami in southeast Florida. Other popular cities in the area include West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and Fort Lauderdale. Any transports to or from southeast Florida, particularly Miami, we can get done pretty quickly, but of course these cities are further south in Florida so these transports will be more expensive than cities located in the northern parts of the state.
Speaking of the northern part of the state, Jacksonville in the northeast section of the state is a great car shipping location! In fact, it's one of the better car shipping locations in Florida.
The major cities in central Florida such as Orlando, Daytona Beach, Ocala, Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Lakeland are all great car shipping locations.
In the southwest Florida, the cities of Fort Myers, Cape Coral, and Naples are all solid car shipping locations as well. Again, keep in mind that the further south you go down into Florida, the more your transport will be so Naples will be more expensive than Tampa, for example.
Heading back up north to the panhandle, Tallahassee is the best car shipping location in the panhandle, but the rest of the cities along the panhandle are hit or miss depending on the shipping location on the other side of the transport. Car carriers shy away from the panhandle unless they are shipping to or from the cities in the panhandle, such as Panama City and Pensacola, to or from cities along I-10 in the southern part of the country. I-10 is a busy cross-country trucking corridor that runs through the panhandle and through Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Otherwise if you are shipping to or from the panhandle cities to or from the northwest, north, or northeast, these transports can be challenging at times (can take more time and more money to complete).
The most challenging area to ship to or from Florida is the Florida Keys. While we can certainly do these transports, we rarely do them as so few people are going to or from the Keys with their vehicles. Shipping to or from any of the cities along the Keys (Key Largo, Marathon, Key West) will be your most expensive transport options in Florida. You can save a lot of money shipping to or from the Keys by meeting a carrier in Miami instead!
One other interesting note about carriers that do Florida auto transports, they rarely serve both coasts of Florida with the same truck load. A carrier will either do all his transports along either the west or east coast on one trip, and then the other coast on another trip. He will rarely pick up and deliver vehicles on both coasts on the same trip. That means if your vehicle is being picked up or delivered in Miami, for example, that carrier will be traveling along the east coast of Florida with his current load of vehicles.
As a door-to-door auto transporter, we can ship to and from any location in Florida. It doesn’t matter if you’re shipping to or from Key Largo or Jacksonville or anywhere in between, we can handle it!
